Information and stories about San Francisco coyotes: behavior & personality, coexistence & outreach, by Janet Kessler: Unveiling first-hand just how savvy, social, sentient and singular coyotes really are!
This is a coyote. From a distance, and at first sight, you could confuse the two. But foxes are tiny, weighing 7 to 15 pounds — more the size of a raccoon — than coyotes which run 30 pounds. Their markings and face features are different. Also, foxes and coyotes seldom share the same territory. My observations are in definite coyote territories.

This looks like a Gray Fox and not a coyote. See Wikipedia.
