The argument has changed from “live and let live” to “live or let live” for some ranchers.

    That we kill and eradicate because we somehow believe we’re entitled or that our needs outweigh those of nature upsets me at every turn. And the argument that left-leaning city folk don’t understand the light of the poor ranchers is tired and losing its sway.

      Elephants are killed (decimated) in Africa “because they ruin crops” — it’s always seen as people’s livelihoods vs. the wild animals. Same as our ranchers see it. There’s got to be a solution beyond WE vs. THEM. In the end, humans seem always to win when seen this way because “it’s our right”: yes, we feel entitled and we feel our needs outweigh those of nature. This is what has to change. Small steps have been taken: a number of states have outlawed coyote killing contests.

    There is no human need for cattle except for a few to make money. We are destroying lives and the environment for a luxury

    Everyone seems to be missing something. Not a single environmental problem cannot be solved by reducing the human population. We were warned in no uncertain terms over 50 years ago and by Thomas Malthus way before that that we needed to reduce our population. When I was in school in the 70’s I remember attending a seminar concerning the population explosion. One girl got up and said, “You cannot tell me I cannot have children!” The professor answered, “I am not telling you that you can’t have children. I am telling you what will happen if you do.” Now that is coming to pass.
    It is now too late. All species will eventually become extinct, not just the wolves. Now it is our turn!

      I agree that the human overpopulation is behind most environmental problems. :(

      We agree but it is out of our control. As late as 10 years ago I sat in on a City Council meeting in my hometown and heard the new City Planner state that without growth our town would die. Nothing has changed in my lifetime. We are beginning to see the movement of large numbers of people from areas where the growth rate has been highest, namely Central America, the Mideast and Africa. This change in human demographics will continue to increase as food and water supplies become more critical. We need to prepare for these changes since there is no way we can prevent them this late in the game.
