The foggy day was suited to the sounds I heard. First I heard sirens to which a group of coyotes responded with their howls and squeals. After the howling had settled down, I heard ravens croaking as they circled above. This coyote took an interest in them.
I have seen ravens pursue coyotes as they hunted in a forested area: maybe this involved territoriality. On this foggy day, this coyote was sitting peacefully on the slope of a hill in an open field — there was no hunting activity. Even so, the ravens might have been out there because the coyote was there.
