[Clarification to the audio: Coyote numbers ‘on the family claimed territories I have been observing’ have remained stable over the past 13 years. This qualification was cut from the audio (at about 6:17), but it’s in the text version. Please know that since 2007, there indeed has been a gradual increase (an incremental increase, not a recent sudden explosion) in their numbers as they repopulated the area they had been purged from, beginning in 2002.]

Great articles… Very interesting to read and see the photos.
Janet you are a real inspiration … You do a fantastic job of educating people about Coyotes. They are a fascinating animal, so family orientated and caring to each other.. Thank you..

If coyotes are “back”? Where did they go? How long were they gone? This is confusing.

They were killed off in the mid-1900s here in San Francisco. The podcast will tell you that. Then in 2002 one was seen in the Presidio for the first time in many decades. — they were making a comeback. They are actually native to this area, so of course, in time they would refill the niches they had previously inhabited. Please listen to the podcast again — all of this information is in there!
